CPO Board Workshop

There are so many ways to put together a board package and even more variables involved in verifying, correcting and adding information to the ESR and CD.  For those who have never done a CPO board workshop, this is a great way to help out your Sailors and make sure they are doing things the right way when it comes to putting a package together.  It's also a great way to get khaki involvement by receiving their pearls of knowledge (and take) on the process. Some of the important things to cover are:

  1. Verifying your CD, service record and ESR are correct
  2. Cover how to correct errors in each source
  3. How to create a cover sheet
  4. How to label enclosures correctly
  5. Go over what info should be included in a package (IE. Eval extensions, missing awards, evals etc.)
  6. How to make a summary letter
  7. Find a Master Chief who has sat the board to explain grading, the slating process, the tank and factors they look for in selecting Chiefs
  8. and whatever else you think is important!

I recommend giving the board eligible folks a preaddressed envelope, so all they really have to do is make the package, Get a few people to check it out, drop it in the envelope, and send it off.  What a great way to help out your shipmates, ensure their package is good-to-go, and you will be surprised how appreciative your shipmates will be for doing this.
